In today’s fast-paced, high-stress world, mental health is more important than ever.  Here are six ways you can improve your mental health and find peace in the chaos.

  1. Be like a Child

Children are curious, innocent and live in the moment. They can find joy in the simplest things, and they don’t hold onto things that upset them. One moment, they might cry for a toy, and the next, they’ve forgotten all about it and moved on to something else. As adults, we can learn from this. Try to live in the moment and find small reasons to smile, even in the face of adversity. This can help you maintain a positive outlook and prevent negative emotions from overwhelming you.

2. Don’t Take Things Personally

On a humanitarian level, it’s important to have empathy for those who lack basic necessities like shelter, food, water, and education. However, this doesn’t mean you should allow these global issues to consume you. It’s important to remember that you can’t solve all of the world’s problems, and you shouldn’t let them cause you undue stress or sleepless nights. Instead, focus on what you can do to help, like assisting those in need in your local community, and don’t blame yourself or others for the things that are out of your control.

  1. Limit Your Time with Energy Vultures

Some people always seem to have something negative to say, about themselves or others. These people can drain your energy and bring you down. If possible, try to limit your time around them or even cut ties with them altogether. Surrounding yourself with positive, supportive people can significantly improve your mental health.

  1. Focus on Self-Care

One of the most important aspects of mental health is self-care. This involves taking steps to maintain your physical, mental, and emotional health. This might include exercising regularly, eating nutrient-rich meals, and getting plenty of sleep. It also includes taking time for yourself, whether that’s reading a book, cooking a special meal, painting, gardening, or just enjoying a cup of coffee. Taking care of yourself physically can also help improve your mental health.

  1. Keep a Daily Journal

If you often find your mind racing with thoughts, journaling can be a useful tool. Writing down your thoughts, feelings, insecurities, achievements, and ideas can help clear your mind and provide clarity. It’s important to use a physical journal and pen for this, as the physical act of writing can be therapeutic in and of itself.

  1. Open Up to a Trusted Friend or Family Member

Sharing your thoughts and feelings with someone you trust can be incredibly helpful. It can relieve the pressure of holding everything in, and it can provide a new perspective on situations. If you have a friend or family member you trust implicitly, don’t hesitate to open up to them. It could do wonders for your mental health. If that’s not possible, please consult a psychologist or counselor.
