Yoga, a tool of self-evolution and self realization, is all set to make its debut as a competitive sport in the 2026 Asian Games. This inclusion marks a significant milestone for yoga, a practice that has been globally embraced for its benefits to mind and body wellbeing.

As a yoga teacher, I am passionate about spreading the message that yoga is a journey that starts from self and ends at self. Yoga is the science and philosophy that helps an individual to explore his truer version and we should avoid practicing as the competition. However, the competitive aspect of yoga in the Asian Games will undoubtedly boost its popularity, encouraging more people to take up yoga. However, it raises an essential question: will this shift compromise the genuine spirit of yoga?

While the recognition and increased participation are positive outcomes, we must ensure that the foundational principles of yoga are not overshadowed by the competitive spirit.

What are your thoughts on this development? Do you see yoga as a sport, a form of exercise, or something beyond that? Share your opinions and join the conversation as we explore the evolving landscape of yoga.
